Special Award Consideration – First-Time Entry As a smaller agency we set the standard for traffic safety in the entire north eastern part of our state. This is our first-time entry and it has been a valuable learning experience. Through this process it has shown us several things and given us a good look at that we do. It has also served as a roadmap to those things we do well and those things we can certainly improve upon. We feel that our strongest area is in the information and education portion. We have a great working relationship with our community and the surrounding media. We are working hard to educate the public and our youth about the importance of traffic safety. This includes all areas of this challenge (speed, occupant protection and impaired driving). We have many other ideas and programs on the horizon for the year 2012. For one example we will be implementing for the first time a “Battle of the Belts” competition between local area schools, in an effort to increase seat belt usage among that age group.
