Show Low Police Departmentís Special Response Team (SRT) was formed in 1998. The teamís formation was in response to rapid population growth in Southern Navajo County and the need for specialized response to hazardous and high risk events.
The team has grown over the years to become a multi-agency team with members from Show Low Police Department, Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department and Navajo County.
Members of the SRT team attend extensive training. A few of the courses are basic SWAT school, advanced SWAT school, active shooter, chemical munitions, explosive breaching and many more.
The Special Response Team regularly assists Navajo County law enforcement agencies with high risk search and arrest warrants, apprehension of known serious offenders, violent felons and search and rescue operations.
By partnering with other local law enforcement agencies and the Show Low Fire Department, the Special Response Team has been able to secure funding from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security to provide safety, communications and tactical equipment along with various types of training. Through these partnerships, the SRT team is well equipped, well trained and capable of responding to a variety of situations within the White Mountain community.
